On Friday, it was announced by ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios that longtime cast member, Thomas Gibson (Aaron Hotchner), had been fired from Criminal Minds. "Thomas Gibson has been dismissed from Criminal Minds," reads a statement released by ABC Studios and CBS Television Studios. "Creative details for how the character's exit will be addressed in the show will be announced at a later date." This comes after Gibson, who has been on the show since the start in 2005, kicked Writer and Producer Virgil Williams due to "Creative differences" and was initially suspended for two episodes and his directing stint that season axed. Gibson later released a statement after the news of his suspension broke on Thursday, August 11 “There were creative differences on the set and a disagreement. I regret that it occurred,” said Gibson. “We all want to work together as a team to make the best show possible. We always have and we always will.” The incident occurred while Gibson was directing an episode of the show in the upcoming 12th season and had a dispute with the episode's writer (Williams), who also happened to be on-set. Sources say they got into an argument and tempers on both sides flared, with Gibson said to have instinctively reacted to aggression and kicked the writer. This was the second incident for Gibson with the show; he pushed assistant director Ian Woolf back in 2010 and had to attend anger management classes but remained on the show. Gibson released another statement after news broke of his firing from the show "I love Criminal Minds and have put my heart and soul into it for the last 12 years," said Gibson. "I had hoped to see it through to the end, but that won't be possible now. I would just like to say thank you to the writers, producers, actors, our amazing crew, and, most importantly, the best fans that a show could ever hope to have." It is expected that Gibson will only appear in the first two episodes of the upcoming 12th Season with his departure from the show now being written in. Originally following the suspension, Gibson's character was to be be MIA starting in Episode 3 after he's assigned a TDY (temporary duty) elsewhere. As expected, fans were outraged by the news of Gibson's sack from the show with some fans starting petitions to bring him back to the show. This isn't the only cast shake-up to be happening in the upcoming season. Adam Rodriguez will be joining the show and filling the void Shemar left last season, Paget Brewster will be making a comeback and reprising her role of Emily Prentiss for multiple episodes and as revealed on Wednesday, Aisha Tyler will be promoted to Series Regular this season. Catch the Season 12 premiere of Criminal Minds on Wednesday, 28 Sept at 9/8c on CBS.
